Bid Writing / Funding Proposal preparation - XX Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay Bid
Suffolk County Council
To write the Suffolk bid to host a visit from the Commonwealth Games Baton Relay ahead of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in July 2014.
The short deadline for the bid submission required a quick turnaround and to ensure that this could be achieved Bavester Associates teamed up with Rob Young Consulting to ensure that sufficient capacity was available to support the client. Key actions included:
Development of a project plan and approach to the bid development process was quickly established building on experience gained by both Katie and Rob in their respective involvement in the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.
Planning and delivery of a series of stakeholder consultation and engagement sessions. The aim of these was to identify potential partners, funders and existing events that could be woven into a strong, collaborative bid that demonstrated Suffolk’s commitment to inspire both young and old through sport and the Queen’s Baton Relay.
Working closely with Suffolk County Council’s ‘Most Active County Project Manager’collation of letters of support from local stakeholders involved in sport
Collation of evidence of good practice from Suffolk’s hosting of the Olympic and Paralympic Torch Relay to accompany the bid
The Suffolk bid to host the Commonwealth Games Baton Relay was submitted ahead of the deadline supported by a glossy document outlining their proposal for a full day of activities. In January 2014 Commonwealth Games England confirmed that Suffolk County Council would play host to the Baton, accepting the proposal, and stating it was one of the best submitted.
